We are often asked, what is Inti?
Inti the Sun God held great significance in the Inca Empire, which was the largest ancient civilization in the Americas. The Incas worshipped Inti as the primary deity and believed he was the ancestor of their ruling class - the descendants of the Sun.
According to Inca mythology, the creator god Viracocha emerged from Lake Titicaca and sent forth his children to establish order and civilization on Earth. One of his sons, Inti, was tasked with bringing light and warmth to the world. Inti travelled across the sky during the day, providing life-giving energy to all living beings. The Incas believed their devotion to Inti would ensure the prosperity and well-being of their civilization.
In addition to his role as the Sun God, Inti was also associated with agriculture. The Incas depended on farming for sustenance and believed Inti's rays provided the necessary energy for crops to grow.
The story of Inti serves as a reminder of the deep spiritual connection the Incas had with the natural world and their reverence for the sun as a symbol of life and prosperity.
